Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Indonesia Jalal Mirzayev has said that Indonesia's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region has made it a trusted and reliable partner in the international arena.

"Its initiatives and approaches toward mediating international problems for sure make Indonesia a trustful and reliable partner in the international arena," Ambassador Mirzayev told ANTARA here on Wednesday (August 16).

He made the statement in response to a speech given by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the 2023 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in which he stated that Indonesia has received high trust from the international community thanks to its democratic principles and efforts to maintain diversity.

Mirzayev stressed that the international community's trust in Indonesia has been proven through its G20 presidency and its chairmanship of ASEAN this year.

He further said that Azerbaijan has also witnessed Indonesia's active participation in addressing and finding solutions to global problems, such as food, energy, and climate change.

"Thus, some of the recent examples are the official launch of the Pandemic Fund, as well as the Bali Energy Transition Road Map, which were realized under Indonesia's G20 Presidency," he added.

On the eve of the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day, Ambassador Mirzayev expressed his congratulations and his best wishes to the Indonesian people.

"May your country be blessed with constant peace, prosperity, and success," he said.

Regarding bilateral relations, Mirzayev noted that cooperation between the two countries has continued to grow in recent years.

"As you know, last year, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries and in frames of commemoration of this event, political consultations between MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) of Azerbaijan and Indonesia was held," said the ambassador.

The meeting gave a big impetus to the further development of bilateral relations, although he acknowledged that there were several areas that needed improvement.

He said he is hoping for the realization of reciprocal high-level visits in the nearest future. He also emphasized that people-to-people contact plays an important role in bilateral relations.

Hence, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Jakarta is planning to hold an Azerbaijani Cultural Day in Indonesia.

The ambassador said he sees positive prospects in terms of cooperation in the fields of alternative energy, agriculture, economy, as well as the intensification of interparliamentary relations.
