Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that a vision without achievement benchmarks is no different from political jargon.

"Vision without a formulated benchmark for achievement is just political jargon. The form is not tangible, the strategy cannot be explained, and the steps cannot be formulated. And it certainly cannot be realized," he underlined in Jakarta on Friday.

The head of state delivered the remarks while speaking at the commemoration of Constitution Day and the 78th anniversary of the People's Consultative Assembly at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

He also welcomed a number of visions that are often presented to the public, such as goals to build a just and prosperous society or to make Indonesia developed and prosperous.

However, the President emphasized that these visions must be accompanied by clear benchmarks and achievement formulations.

"What are the benchmarks for being just and prosperous? And also what are the benchmarks for becoming developed countries and prosperous countries? Is it income per capita? The human development index? Unemployment rate? Poverty rate? Or all of that?" he asked.

Widodo said that he did not want visions, including those conveyed by prospective leaders, to end up as political jargon that cannot be translated into strategy.

The President emphasized that a vision must be down to earth and tactical, with clear benchmarks for achievement and accompanied by comprehensive, technical strategy, steps, and time targets for achievement.

"This is important so that the people understand which way this nation is going and where it is going. The people can also participate in the development," he explained.

Earlier, the President opened his remarks by offering his congratulations on Constitution Day and the 78th anniversary of the People's Consultative Assembly.

He said that the commemoration was a momentum to discuss the nation's strategy for achieving goals in the midst of unpredictable and uncertain global conditions.
