Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi has informed that as many as 1,077 journalists have registered to cover the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

During a media gathering on preparations for the summit here on Monday, the minister said that the 1,077 journalists include 326 foreign journalists, 37 foreign journalists based in Indonesia, and 524 Indonesian journalists, including broadcasting crews.

He informed that the registrations took place from August 5 to August 25, 2023, with 170 international media and 70 national media organizations registering to cover the summit.

The ministry has prepared a media center at Exhibition Hall B of the Jakarta Convention Center, which can accommodate 2,500 people.

"This media center will operate from September 2 to 8, 2023, in cooperation with (state-owned telecommunications company) PT Telkom as the internet connection provider," he said.

He expressed the hope that the provision of facilities for activities ranging from working to dining would help journalists cover the summit in a conducive manner.

The minister emphasized that the availability of facilities for journalists is regulated by Presidential Decree Number 5 of 2023 on the National Committee for Indonesia's Chairmanship at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2023.

"Support from editors-in-chief, media is a very important thing for the successful implementation of the 43rd ASEAN Summit," he remarked.

The summit is scheduled to take place from September 5–7 at the Jakarta Convention Center, with delegates from around 26 countries in attendance.

Besides ASEAN countries, the summit will be attended by delegates from several other countries, including Australia, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, the United States, and Canada, as well as representatives of the United Nations (UN).

Several side events are also scheduled to take place during the ASEAN Summit week, including the ASEAN Business Summit and ASEAN Investment Forum.
