We are committed to implementing green industry in all aspects of industrial business activities to maintain the sustainability of industriesJakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry has said that the issuance of a circular regarding emissions reporting is a demonstration of the government's commitment to supporting and maintaining the business climate for industries that are green and sustainable.
The ministry has issued Industry Minister's Circular Number 2 of 2023 on the Reporting of Industrial Exhaust Gas Emission Control in Jakarta, West Java, and Banten Areas, which will be effective from August 25 to December 31, 2023.
"We are committed to implementing green industry in all aspects of industrial business activities to maintain the sustainability of industries," the ministry's Director General of Resilience, Area, and International Industrial Access, Eko S.A. Cahyanto, said at a press conference on the August 2023 Industrial Confidence Index (IKI) here on Thursday.
According to him, the circular is a form of the ministry's support to actively assist in efforts to control exhaust emissions in the industrial sector.
At the same time, it is also expected to support efforts to improve air quality, not only in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), but also in industrial concentration areas.
The circular has been deemed necessary for monitoring industrial business activities to ensure they are in accordance with green industry aspects.
In addition, the circular will serve as an instrument that helps the ministry to take quick action on disputes in the field.
"The task of the Ministry of Industry, as mandated by the President (Joko Widodo) and the coordination meeting, is to monitor the control of industrial business activities, specifically in relation to controlling exhaust emissions," Cahyanto said.
Through the circular, the ministry is aiming to get more accurate data every week so that it can create short-term policies for handling the worsening air quality in the three provinces of Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.
He emphasized that his ministry is continuing to coordinate with other ministries and institutions as well as regional governments to check sources of air pollution jointly.
The circular requires industries to report on the control of exhaust emissions in industrial areas every week, specifically every Thursday.
Cahyanto said that the ministry will soon distribute 10 emission monitoring tools in several industrial concentration areas in the three provinces. The tools are expected to make the work of the industrial sector exhaust gas emission control inspection teams easier.
"We are cooperating with area managers to carry out monitoring so that we can get more accurate data going forward," he added.
