Hasan mentioned that Indonesia is open to cooperation and collaboration in the development of EVs. This includes developing the EV ecosystem, creating a favorable business and investment climate, and optimizing the use of sustainable resources.
"Through such collaborations, the domestic industry will grow, and EV exports will increase," he stated in a press release issued on Tuesday.
Hasan welcomed VinFast's plan to establish an EV manufacturing company in Indonesia, considering it a step in the right direction as both Indonesia and Vietnam are ASEAN member countries with robust economies.
"This represents a tangible collaboration within the ASEAN framework and in the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Vietnam," he remarked.
Hasan also highlighted that Indonesia is the world's leading producer of nickel, a crucial raw material for EV batteries, along with minerals such as lithium, cobalt, graphite, and manganese.
The Indonesian government strongly supports the development of the EV battery industry and has established measurable targets for the development, implementation, and utilization of EV batteries in the country.
"The Trade Ministry has issued regulations regarding the import of used lithium batteries as industrial raw materials. This is aimed at supporting and promoting the growth of the domestic EV battery industry," Hasan explained.
He mentioned that during the meeting, VinFast expressed interest in exploring cooperation in the construction of electric cars and the manufacturing of electric car batteries in Indonesia.
