Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi has asked television and radio broadcasting players to help spread the narrative on the importance of collectively realizing peaceful general elections in 2024.

The minister said that broadcasting agencies would play a crucial role in helping maintain a peaceful and conducive situation before and during the upcoming elections.

"We aim to help the country preserve a good and conducive atmosphere for the holding of the 2024 General Elections by echoing the narratives on peaceful elections," he told TV and radio broadcasters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He affirmed that the ministry shares the responsibility for making 2024 a peaceful election year.

He then informed that this year, the ministry has prepared a dedicated budget to manage and convey information regarding the meaning of peaceful elections to the public.

The ministry is also striving to boost digital and political literacy among young voters in the hopes of enabling them to respond wisely to political content circulating in the digital space, he added.

He also informed that his ministry has been coordinating with other ministries and agencies to tackle the spread of negative election-related content on social media that could pose a threat to social peace.

In order to take down posts advocating radical beliefs, the ministry has been working in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, he informed.

According to the minister, the two ministries have been collaborating to identify and remove digital content that could possibly divide the nation.

He then asked broadcasting agencies to help the government amplify its efforts to build awareness on the meaning and importance of peaceful elections.

"Together, we can designate the 2024 General Elections as peaceful, dignified, and quality elections that will produce leaders that are capable of leading Indonesia toward progress," he said.
