"I believe that if such programs are to be bolstered in terms of their quantity and quality, Indonesia and Japan will gain great benefits," she said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The minister made the statement during the Coordination Meeting for Organizing Overseas Internships, which was themed "Multi-stakeholders Collaboration for Producing a Competent Workforce Through Quality Overseas Internships."
During the meeting, she emphasized the government's support for the sustainability of internship cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.
The Ministry of Manpower is supporting all measures aimed at improving the quality of the internship programs while taking universally recognized internship principles into account.
"Internship programs must be carried out while protecting the basic rights of the interns," she affirmed.
She then expressed the hope that the participants attending the coordination meeting would discuss applicable measures for improving the implementation of internship cooperation with Japan.
"Hopefully, this coordination meeting will facilitate us to self-evaluate, so we can address all the shortcomings we experienced when organizing internship programs in Japan," she said.
Meanwhile, Anwar Sanusi, the ministry's secretary general, noted that Indonesia and Japan have been collaborating for the past three decades to improve the quality of the workforce through internships.
According to him, the internships organized by the two countries provide great benefits to interns since they can upgrade their skills while gaining valuable experience and understanding of Japanese culture.
"The government is working in collaboration with various stakeholders, including training institutes, to ensure that internships in Japan provide maximum benefits to the participants," he said.
Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, and the minister's special staff, Caswiyono Rusydie Cakrawangsa, also attended the coordination meeting.
