"With the enactment of Law No. 3 of 2022 concerning the Nusantara National Capital, infrastructure development projects must run optimally and in accordance with SNI," Head of the BSN Public Relations, Cooperation, and Information Services Bureau, Zul Amri, said in a statement received here on Sunday.
He said, as stated in Article 2 of Law No. 3/2022, the government has a vision to make Nusantara a globally sustainable city.
He explained that Nusantara will become Indonesia's economic driver in the future and a symbol of national identity that represents the nation's diversity, Pancasila, and the 1945 Constitution.
To realize that vision, Amri said, the application of SNI that prioritizes safety, quality, and environmental friendliness in infrastructure development is important.
He explained that BSN, which is in charge of standardization and conformity assessment, has a role in supporting the development of Nusantara.
"BSN has set 1,140 construction standards out of the established 14,817 SNIs," he said.
He detailed that some 275 standards of the 1,140 construction standards are for steel products. For instance, SNI 0068:2013 is for steel pipes used in general construction; SNI 8399:2023 is for light steel frames; and SNI 2052:2017 is for reinforcing steel bars.
Building construction materials that have SNI are proven to have a lower risk of failure or damage triggered by natural disasters such as earthquakes.
Meanwhile, he said that BSN will promote products that have SNI standards at the 11th Indonesia Quality Expo (IQE) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on November 9–12, 2023.
"IQE is held in commemoration of World Standards Day and National Quality Month," Amri said.
The IQE implementation in Balikpapan is considered strategic as the city is close to the Nusantara project.
