"We initially targeted 20 gold medals at APG Hangzhou China, but after a revision, now it is 19 golds," deputy secretary general of NPC Indonesia, Rima Ferdianto, informed here on Monday.
He explained that initially, Indonesia aimed for 6 gold medals in para chess, but the target has now been revised to 5 golds.
Indonesia will compete in 12 parasports at APG Hangzhou, including para athletics in which it is targeting to win 4 golds, 5 silvers, 4 bronzes (4-5-4), para badminton (4-4-4), para table tennis (0-0-2), para swimming (1-2-2), para weightlifting (0-1-1), para cycling (2-2-2), and para shooting (0-2-2).
It is also targeting medals in para archery (1 silver and 1 bronze; 0-1-1), boccia (0-0-1), bling judo (0-0-2), para chess (5-3-2), and lawn bowls (3-3-2).
"NPC Indonesia will participate in 12 sports and hopefully, we can reach the top 10 rankings," he said.
Badminton, lawn bowls, cycling, and chess are expected to contribute the most medals at the games in Hangzhou, he added.
The Indonesian contingent will send 130 athletes to the games. He said that they will face heavy competition in China.
"Indonesia must be able to maximize its specialization to be able to get gold in China," he said.
At the 2018 Asian Para Games, Indonesia, as the host, targeted to get seventh rank, but managed to place fifth, he noted.
"That time, as the host, Indonesia had a lot of advantages, and now, there are no advantages. However, we hope Indonesia can get to eighth rank in the Asian Para Games in China this year," he said.
