We also crack down on cops if they are found involved (in drug crimes)Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - The Aceh police, on Wednesday, destroyed 112 kg of crystal methamphetamine that local cops seized from arrested members of an international drug ring.
Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Achmad Kartiko stated that destroying the seized crystal meth proved the police's commitment to its war on drugs.
"We do not play with drugs. We also crack down on cops if they are found involved (in drug crimes)," he affirmed.
Kartiko expressed his concerns over the ongoing flows of illicit drugs into Aceh to be then traded in various Indonesian cities.
Over the past 10 months of this year, the Aceh police have handled 1,213 drug cases with 1,635 suspects. Some 34 of the suspected drug traffickers are women, he remarked.
The local cops confiscated 334.4 kg of dried marijuana, 132.6 kg of crystal meth, and 1,890 ecstasy pills from the 1,635 suspects, he stated.
The Aceh police continue to crack down on drug traffickers and users, he said while calling for the locals' active participation in the fights against drug offenders.
ANTARA reported earlier that Aceh remains in a state of emergency over drug trafficking, with transnational and inter-provincial drug rings still active in the province despite the ongoing crackdown against them.
Both police and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) have continued to clamp down on drug kingpins and their drug supply networks in Aceh over the past few years.
Looking at the physical evidence of drug crimes that local police and BNN officers have frequently seized, cannabis and crystal methamphetamine seem to be the most commonly trafficked drugs.
On April 6, 2021, a joint team of personnel from the BNN, police, military, and local government destroyed nine hectares of cannabis plantations in North Aceh District.
More than 70 thousand cannabis plants, reaching 30 to 250 centimeters in height, were burned to the ground in the villages of Jurong and Sawang as part of the operation.
The destroyed cannabis plants weighed in at a total of 35 tons. The joint team members also burned and uprooted about 10 thousand cannabis seeds.
