Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) expected 20 thousand delegates from 171 countries to attend the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali on May 18-24, 2024, to discuss water utilization for improving welfare.

"In terms of the size, this forum is very large, even likely bigger than the G20 if looking at the participating countries," the ministry's Director General of Public Information and Communication Usman Kansong stated during the 10th WWF consultation meeting here on Thursday.

He noted that as per the plan, President Joko Widodo will open the forum that will be attended by several heads of state.

Kansong remarked that preparations for the 10th WWF have been running for almost two years. He noted that the preparations included several meetings held in Beijing, China, and Jakarta in February 2023.

Meanwhile, he said, Kominfo will support the 10th WWF from the public communication side, including holding a media conference to discuss the event.

"With so many participants, we have to prepare a good media center and a large-capacity internet network, as journalists from various countries will also be present," he stated.

He remarked that the main issue to be raised at the 10th WWF concerns water for welfare or water justice.

In addition, WWF will highlight the political will of world leaders to address water scarcity in various parts of the world, such as in African countries.

Hence, Kansong underscored the need for collaboration and joint efforts to maintain water supplies and protect water from being polluted.

"It really depends on the concern or political will of the governments of the world, and secondly, (water) for justice because there is a gap between water-abundant countries and countries experiencing water crises, for example, in Africa," Kansong stated.
