Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The Papua provincial government has prepared a provincial regional development plan (Raperdasi) on Sports that is integrated with the Grand Design of Sports in Regions (DBOD).

Acting Secretary of Papua Province Derek Hegemur stated here on Friday that Raperdasi on Sports is being processed at the Papuan Regional House of Representatives.

The Raperdasi being integrated with the DBOD aligns with the central government's plan to make Papua a sports province, he remarked.

"The stages of Papua Province to be a sports province is under (deliberation), and a forum group discussion (FGD) has been carried out," Hegemur stated.

According to Hegemur, the Papua provincial government officially submitted the FGD results to Vice President Ma'ruf Amin during a meeting with athletes and other sports figures at the Papua Bangkit Stadium on Wednesday (October 11).

"We hope that the central government will respond to the document after it was submitted by the Acting Governor of Papua Ridwan Rumasukun. We are still waiting for the determination of Papua as a sports province," he remarked.

He said that the central government will issue either a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) or a Presidential Decree (Kepres) as a legal foundation to determine Papua as a sports province.

He explained that the province's Raperdasi on Sports covers the development of sports science and sports center, which involves the role of the Cenderawasih University's Faculty of Sports.

"The Papuan DBOD has been integrated in one document, so the central government is expected to determine Papua's status as a sports province soon," he remarked.

Earlier, VP Amin held a dialogue with Papuan athletes, considering the region's extraordinary talents in sports.

He noted that Papua is blessed with several talented athletes, who can compete at the national and international levels in several sports branches.
