Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Yogyakarta government is planning to initiate immediate reforms in all villages in the province following the issuance of the Gubernatorial Regulation No. 40 of 2023.

The regulation stipulates the reformation of village bureaucracy and community empowerment programs at the village level, Yogyakarta regional secretary Beny Suharsono informed at the Kepatihan Complex here on Monday.

"(The reformation) is to make the programs and activities have a good impact on public services, both in terms of physical and non-physical development," he explained.

Village reform, he said, is an actualization of the vision, mission, and strategy of Yogyakarta for improving the quality of life and the livelihood of the community.

The reform policy will be launched officially during a kick-off meeting on October 19, 2023, which will involve 392 heads of villages from the province.

According to Suharsono, the reformation of the village bureaucracy will focus on improving village governance, which emphasizes simple programs but has a huge positive impact.

The village reform plan will also seek to create effective, collaborative, and performance-oriented village governance, as well as increase the number of professional village officials, he added.

He said that the use of the Performance Accountability System For Government Institutions (SAKIP) and strengthening village financial management will support the target of village reforms.

Moreover, he said, the Village Consultative Body (Bamuskal) and the community can help supervise the village reform implementation.

Furthermore, he explained, the reformation of village community empowerment programs will focus on transforming and empowering villagers' lives, specifically, ensuring they have the ability and knowledge to meet their physical, economic, and social needs.

The village reform program will deploy three teams at the level of province, district, and village.

He expressed the hope that Yogyakarta province's village reform program would become a model for other regions.
