Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The health and social event held by the alumni of the 1991 batch of the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy (Akabri) in Malang, East Java, reflects their commitment to serving the people, the National Police chief said.

"I praise the Akabri 91 alumni who carried out their reunion with a focus on providing service to the community," General Listyo Sigit Prabowo remarked here on Saturday.

He said that the general public can access several health services for free at the event.

He informed that based on the reports he received, similar activities were also held in other regions of Indonesia and saw participation from approximately 40 thousand people.

He said that the activity is expected to be continued in order to provide services to people in need and bring the Indonesian Military and the Police (TNI and Polri) closer to the community.

"Please continue these activities so that TNI and Polri can get closer to the community," he added.

On the same occasion, the TNI commander, Admiral Yudo Margono, lauded all levels of the TNI and Polri leaders involved in the implementation of the health and social service event.

The event was held at Rampal Field in Malang city.

According to Margono, the activity can be a good example for other TNI officials on how events held by the military can benefit people in need.

At least 459 health workers were involved in the Akabri 91 Alumni Health and Social Service event.

The medical personnel consisted of 85 general practitioners and specialists, 6 dentists, 179 nurses, 7 other health workers, 22 personnel from the Indonesian Red Cross, 40 military personnel, and 120 volunteers.
