Ambon (ANTARA) - The Government of Poland expressed interest in exploring cooperation opportunities, including in the tourism sector, with the Ambon municipal government, Acting Mayor of Ambon Bodewin Wattimena stated.

"During his visit, Deputy Ambassador of Poland to Indonesia Stefan Piotr Firlus expressed his government's keenness to explore cooperation opportunities in various sectors, especially tourism, with the Ambon municipal government," he remarked in Ambon City, Maluku Province, on Thursday.

The acting mayor further noted that Firlus' visit to Ambon was in the context of exploring potential cooperation in the tourism sector, given that based on data, around 200 Polish tourists visit Maluku Province's capital every year.

By fostering and maintaining sound relations, both parties can establish a travel agent managed either by the government or private actors.

"This travel agent will help manage the trips of Polish tourists during their visit to Ambon City," he explained.

According to Wattimena, the Polish government also expressed its eagerness to cooperate in the field of education through a student exchange program with Pattimura University.

"This can be the foundation for future educational cooperation," he remarked.

He then spoke of having urged the Polish government to help Ambon with the provision of clean water supply.

Furthermore, he spoke of having expressed interest in cooperating with the Polish government in waste management as well as establishing sister city cooperation between Ambon and a city in Poland.

"Sister city is a long-term cooperation. It should be noted that the Polish Deputy Ambassador visited Ambon to appreciate the city, which is different from big cities in Java. This city has beautiful natural scenery," he remarked.

The official also noted that Deputy Ambassador Firluswas was enthralled by Ambon City's beauty and hospitality, adding that the Polish diplomat was keen to enjoy Ambon's music when he returns here someday.
