Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ad-Interim Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Erick Thohir said there were several opportunities for Australia, ranging from the education sector to new and renewable energy, to invest in Indonesia's new capital city (IKN) Nusantara.

"From my last visit to IKN with President Joko Widodo, there was a possibility for collaboration with Australia. They are committed to supporting our educational development by opening a university at IKN," he noted on Thursday.

Moreover, the minister stated that IKN would source its electricity from green energy. State-run electricity company, PT PLN, had conducted the groundbreaking of a solar power plant (PLTS), with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW), in IKN and will later increase it to 80 MW in August 2024.

"This is also an opportunity for Indonesia and Australia," he remarked.

Based on Law Number 3 of 2022, Indonesia has set a target to become the top five countries with the strongest economy in the world and have a high income per capita by 2045.

This target is built on the four main pillars of Indonesia's 2045 Vision, namely human development and mastery of science and technology; sustainable economic development; equitable development; and strengthening national resilience and governance.

The relocation of the national capital to IKN in East Kalimantan was carried out to realize Indonesia's 2045 economic targets, namely more inclusive and equitable economic growth through accelerated development of the eastern region of Indonesia.

IKN Nusantara will have a central function and is a symbol to show the identity of the nation and the state.

Hence, the relocation and development of a new capital city must be based on the development of mature city principles and the long-term needs and vision of a nation.

The planning paradigm and principles of IKN development are formulated as important considerations for the new city's growth and progress.
