"With the ground segment, the satellite is expected to serve the community next year," he said here on Thursday.
The ground segment includes very small aperture terminals (VSATs) and 11 earth stations, whose infrastructure has been completed. SATRIA-1 will cover at least 10 thousand service points.
The 11 earth stations are ready to operate along with the primary satellite center, the network operation center, and the backup control station. The locations of the earth stations include Cikarang, West Java, and Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
The rest are in Batam, Pontianak, Tarakan, Manado, Kupang, Ambon, Manokwari, Timika, and Jayapura.
"The ground segment is being built for the service receiving points," Setiadi said.
Earlier on Tuesday (October 31, 2023), SATRIA-1 was reported to have reached its orbit at 146 degrees east longitude. It has been confirmed that SATRIA-1 is positioned right above Papua Island at an altitude of over 36 thousand kilometers above the Earth's surface.
The satellite has completed its electrical orbit raising (EOR) process. EOR is a propulsion mechanism that raises a satellite toward its predetermined orbit.
The satellite will need to be in nominal condition after the orbit-raising phase. After entering the final insertion and electrical station keeping (ESK) phase, the satellite will undergo the in-orbit testing (IOT) phase on November 6 to check its performance, especially the satellite payload subsystem.
SATRIA-1 is expected to serve the most disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions in the country.
The satellite was launched from the Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC 40) in Florida, the United States, on June 18.
