"We will take advantage of the momentum of this year-end holiday with the #ProudToTravelInIndonesia campaign so that 2023's target of 1.2 billion–1.4 billion domestic tourist movements can be achieved," the ministry's deputy for tourism products and event organization, Vinsensius Jemadu, said here on Tuesday.
The Christmas and New Year holidays are one of the biggest momentum in the tourism and creative economy sectors, he added.
Working with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and state-run tourism holding Injourney, the ministry has collaborated with the Indonesian Travel Agent Association (Astindo) to hold a travel fair #DiIndonesiaAja to sell year-end holiday packages.
The ministry has also collaborated with the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry to promote #diIndonesiaAja in schools.
"We are also collaborating with online travel agents (OTA) by preparing promo packages for 10 thousand people during December 2023 with a total promo of around Rp500 million," he informed.
Based on data from the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry, this year's Christmas and New Year holidays will see a 5-percent increase in people's movement.
The Transportation Ministry has estimated that there will be 904,496 public transportation passengers during the year-end holiday.
In addition, there will be 52,755 motorcyclists, 98,267 car drivers, 12,157 buses, and 55,569 trucks traveling in the streets during the holidays.
Earlier, to support the target of over 1 billion domestic tourist movements, the ministry launched the #DiIndonesiaAja real work lecture/field work lecture (KKN/KKL) program, targeting college students.
At least 3 thousand students participated in the program that was held in Cibeber village, Purwakarta district, West Java.
