Patria noted that by embracing AI through the use of right knowledge, the society has become part of the process of digital transformation by applying technology to drive productivity.
"We cannot avoid technological developments, (so) instead, we must be able to embrace them by continuing to increase knowledge, so that the use of AI can create an inclusive, empowering, and productive society," Patria noted in his official statement received on Monday.
The deputy minister conveyed the message at the Indonesia Cyber Law Conference 2023 to participants who were mostly practitioners in the field of AI in Indonesia and also academics.
Patria stated that to support the productive use of AI for society, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) has also paid special attention to the use of AI from a risk mitigation perspective.
One of the AI risk mitigation efforts as a solution was presented by Kemenkominfo while representing Indonesia at an international conference titled "AI Safety Summit 2023".
At the event, Indonesia invited all participating countries to apply a collaboration mechanism between stakeholders to adopt the principle of inclusivity for all countries in utilizing AI.
Moreover, through the collaboration, all countries are expected to comply with their responsibilities in accordance with their respective capabilities in order to create inclusive AI governance.
Indonesia also called on stakeholders to prioritize AI security that can guarantee the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data.
"Our focus is not only to regulate the AI ecosystem in Indonesia but also to support further discussion about AI governance at the global level, considering that there are several aspects of AI risks that are international. We need international collaboration to form a more comprehensive and integrated framework," he stated.
The focus on utilizing and strengthening the AI ecosystem is important, considering that the industry has grown at a rapid pace recently.
Based on the McKinsey Report in 2023, more than 600 companies have used AI in various business sectors globally, from customer service, marketing, to cyber security. The global market value of AI in 2023 is estimated to reach US$142.3 billion.
At the ASEAN level, the use of AI technology contributes to the ASEAN GDP of one trillion US dollars. From that amount, US$366 billion is projected to come from Indonesia.
