Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry is cooperating with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga to provide sufficient supply of fuel for development of the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

Pertamina Patra Niaga is part of state-run oil and gas giant PT Pertamina.

"Energy, including fuel, is required for ensuring the smooth running of the initial phase of the development of IKN," PUPR Ministry's Secretary-General, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, remarked in Jakarta on Friday.

Fatah noted that the demand for fuel would continue to increase along with the intensified execution of construction projects in IKN, both carried out by the government and private actors.

He stated that the PUPR Ministry is currently executing the construction of various basic infrastructure in the Government Core Area of Indonesia's future capital city, with work being 55-percent complete.

Fatah said cooperation with Pertamina is of the essence to ensure the availability of fuel required to ensure that the development of basic infrastructure in Nusantara will conclude according to the set targets.

Both parties reached the cooperation agreement through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Head of PUPR Ministry's Executive Task Force of IKN Infrastructure Development, Danis H. Sumadilaga, and Pertamina Patra Niaga's Marketing and Commerce Director, Maya Kusmaya.

According to Fatah, the cooperation agreement will be followed by technical agreements while noting that executors of the cooperation on the field are contractors funded by the State Budget (APBN).

He then added that approximately four million litres of fuel are needed on a monthly basis to support the operation of heavy equipment used in infrastructure development in IKN.

The cooperation forged between the PUPR Ministry and Pertamina Patra Niaga is aimed at ensuring the fulfillment of the amount of fuel required, he concluded.
