"We (try to revoke) the yellow card according to our capacities, where we are developing the 'Trail of The Kings,'" BPODT President Director Jimmy Panjaitan told ANTARA here on Friday.
Panjaitan said, the Trail of The Kings tourism agenda is in the form of ecotourism covering 16 geosites in the Lake Toba area.
He remarked that the running competition is planned to be held in early 2024, while BPODT is still finishing the concept.
According to Panjaitan, BPODT, as a public service agency of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, has an obligation to continue the development of geoparks in the Toba Caldera.
"The Trail of The Kings will present tour packages that connect 16 geosite points in Lake Toba," he stated.
Meanwhile, the trail run agenda has received support from Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo.
To promote the event, BPODT cooperates with Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB), a world-renowned trail running competition.
Furthermore, Minister Ariotedjo urged BPODT to involve the Indonesian Trail Running Association (ALTI) in the implementation of the Trail of the Kings.
The Toba Caldera Geopark received a yellow card at the UNESCO Global Geopark conference in Morocco on September 4-5, 2023.
Other destinations that received yellow cards were Zhijindong Cave of China, Luberon Regional Natural Park of France, Italy's Madonie, and Colca y Volcanes de Andagua in Peru.
The yellow card is a warning from UNESCO that the territory's governing body did not meet some of the criteria for establishing a geopark.
