Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga has invited all stakeholders to make the commemoration of World Children's Day this year a moment for child protection by achieving child-friendly 2024 elections.

"We aim to make World Children's Day a national moment dedicated to child protection during the 2024 elections," she remarked at the 2023 World Children's Day commemoration event in Jakarta on Monday.

She stated that World Children's Day is celebrated by creating opportunities for children to express themselves during their leisure time and be creative through various fun learning platforms.

The commemoration of World Children's Day this time coincides with the election fervor ahead of the 2024 General Elections, Puspayoga said.

To that end, her ministry has signed a joint circular letter between the PPPA Ministry, the Home Ministry, the General Elections Commission (KPU), the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) regarding the implementation of child-friendly 2024 elections.

The purpose of the joint circular letter is to protect and fulfill children's rights by not exploiting them but by providing political education and opening access to information for young voters under the age of 18.

"This demonstrates the state's commitment to protect Indonesian children by creating democratic, child-friendly elections," Puspayoga remarked.

She affirmed that the fulfillment of children's rights is a collective responsibility that should not be shouldered by one side alone.

Hence, synergy and collaboration of all parties must continue to be built in the efforts to fulfill the rights and protection of children.

"The fulfillment of children's rights must be carried out by the central government, local governments, the business world, community organizations, and the media," she added.
