Director of Various New and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Andriah Feby Misna noted in her statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, that the government is ready and continues to support PLN to become a pioneer in processing green hydrogen into alternative energy fuel.
Currently, the government is finalizing special regulations regarding hydrogen as an alternative fuel.
"Regarding the regulations for hydrogen, they have been included. Even though they are very specific, there are no specific regulations yet, but with what PLN and BRIN have done, we will also formulate further regarding this hydrogen," Misna remarked.
According to Misna, the green hydrogen business for energy needs already exists, albeit its use as fuel needs to be regulated by the government. In future, the government will formulate special regulations for hydrogen as fuel.
"In the New and Renewable Energy Bill, we have also included hydrogen as one of the new (sources of) energy, so in the near future, we can formulate special government regulations or regulations regarding the business of hydrogen as a fuel," Misna remarked.
Meanwhile, lead expert researcher of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Eniya Listiani Dewi commended PLN's commitment and speed in building a green hydrogen ecosystem. Currently, she said, PLN has created alternative energy in the form of green hydrogen that is the cheapest among other countries.

Dewi underscored the need for support from multiple stakeholders and countries globally to expedite the process of infrastructure improvement.
"We have to support PLN's fast movement to prove its ecosystem, and we are thinking about being able to provide public transportation. We believe that hydrogen, as an alternative fuel, can be applied in Indonesia because we have been conducting research for more than 20 years," Dewi remarked.
President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo believes that Indonesia can play an important role in developing green hydrogen as an alternative fuel. Currently, PLN has produced 21 GHP in all PLN Group generator units.
The total of 21 GHP will be able to produce nearly 200 tons of green hydrogen per year.
Green hydrogen production, reaching as much as 75 tons annually, is used for cooling generators, while the other 124 tons can be used for various needs, including for vehicles.
"From the green hydrogen production that we are developing, per year, we can produce 124 tons of green hydrogen that can be used as vehicle fuel," Prasodjo explained.
With an average vehicle hydrogen consumption of 0.8 kilograms per 100 kilometers, the 124 tons of green hydrogen produced can be used for 424 cars annually that are moving 100 kilometers per day.
The figure can reduce carbon emissions by up to 3.72 million kilograms of CO2 and reduce fuel imports by 1.55 million liters per year and replace imported energy with domestic energy.
Prasodjo also highlighted that PLN will also develop a hydrogen refueling station to support the environmentally friendly hydrogen vehicle ecosystem, so that it can massively reduce carbon emissions.
"This is a concrete manifestation of PLN's collaboration with the government, in this case, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in innovative work to respond to the energy transition," he said.
