Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Health Service has completed monkeypox (mpox) vaccination for 411 people consisting of two doses of vaccine.

"There are 411 people who have completed the mpox vaccination," the Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Immunization Department at the health service, Ngabila Salama, informed on Sunday.

Salama informed that the second dose of mpox vaccine is given four weeks or 28 days after the first dose.

Her party started the provision of mpox vaccine since October 23 to November 3, 2023. Moreover, the Indonesian Health Ministry had also provided 4,500 doses of mpox vaccine and 1,008 bottles of the antiviral tecovirimat as an effort to treat these patients.

The latest data from the health service recorded that 28 of the 44 mpox patients in Jakarta throughout 2023 have completed isolation or been declared cured.

"There were 44 positive mpox cases in 2023. The 28 patients have been declared cured and completed isolation," she remarked.

Salama informed that a total of 41 cases originating from Jakarta were reported on December 1. All patients were men aged 25-50 years with mild symptoms and transmitted from sexual contact.

From the 41 mpox patients, the remaining 13 are still undergoing isolation in the hospital. Meanwhile, 150 people were tested negative for mpox based on the PCR tests, she added.

She said that her party was monitoring the development of mpox cases in Jakarta and Indonesia until November 24, 2023.

Based on data from November 21, 2023, mpox cases in Indonesia were also spread in West Java with six cases, Banten six cases, East Java one case, and Riau Islands one case.

The case monitoring was carried out based on predictions of incubation of the virus, namely twice of the longest incubation period or six weeks from October 13, 2023, or since the local transmission case was discovered in Indonesia.
