"We are building collaboration and cooperation with various stakeholders, both with domestic and foreign partners, such as industrial partners, industrial associations, regional governments, and overseas development partners, to develop our vocational education in accordance with European standards," head of the ministry's Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), Masrokhan, expounded.
As part of such collaboration, a series of vocational activities were organized recently in partnership with the German and Swiss governments, he said.
The activities included a workshop on "Strengthening Institutional Management of Vocational Institutions," "International Workplace Trainer Training Batch 6," "Master Trainer Training for International Workplace Trainers in 2023," and "Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Structured Internship Guidelines," which were held from October to November 2023.
According to head of the Industrial Vocational Education Development Center (PPPVI), Emmy Suryandari, the workshop on "Strengthening Institutional Management of Vocational Institutions" aimed to strengthen the promotion and quality of the vocational education training (VET) system in Indonesia and provide innovative polytechnic management solutions to face global and future challenges.
The activity was attended by 36 participants from the higher education unit of the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, she informed.
Held as part of a collaboration between BPSDMI and Swisscontact through the Skills for Competitiveness (S4C) Project, the workshop also featured facilitators with international qualifications from the International Training Center of the International Labor Organization (ITC-ILO).
In addition, to develop vocational partnerships between universities and industries, BPSDMI worked with GIZ Germany, Swisscontact-S4C, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to train the workforce in accordance with the best practices followed in European countries through the "International Workplace Trainer Training (ICT) Batch 6," Suryandari said.
Meanwhile, from November 13–20, 2023, BPSDMI, GIZ Germany, and Swisscontact-S4C conducted vocational activities through the "2023 International Workplace Master Trainer Training" with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Kadin, and IHK Trier. The training was joined by 16 participants from industry and representatives from the regional chambers of commerce and industry.
The vocational activities ended with the "Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Structured Internship Guidelines" held by BPSDMI in collaboration with Swisscontact-S4C, SwissCham, and Kadin.
Suryandari said that the results of the FGD will be a reference for companies and vocational education institutions in starting dual-system vocational education and training programs.
"This series of vocational training activities is our commitment to create competent industrial human resources in accordance with the Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2022 concerning the Revitalization of Vocational Education and Vocational Training," she added.
