Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) chaired the Summit celebrating 50 Years of ASEAN-Japan Friendship Cooperation at The Okura Hotel, Japan, on Sunday.

Jokowi's presence on the agenda was included in his activity on the second day of his visit to Tokyo, the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta said.

The president and his entourage arrived at the summit venue at around 09.50 local time and were greeted by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and held a group photo session afterward.

The President was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto; Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi; Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif; Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung; and Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.

After the group photo, President Jokowi and other state leaders entered the meeting hall to attend the Summit Celebrating 50 Years of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.

Minister Marsudi said that President Jokowi would co-chair the summit since Indonesia still holds the ASEAN chairmanship for this year.

"The ASEAN-Japan Summit is also the last major activity of Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN," she said on Saturday (December 16).

Earlier on Saturday, Jokowi had a bilateral meeting with PM Kishida.

Jokowi and Kishida discussed several issues such as inviting the Japanese government and the private sector to invest in Indonesia's new capital city, IKN Nusantara.

Their talks also touched on the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)'s plan to participate in the development of a railway line from Balikpapan to IKN and in IKN, Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono revealed.

The spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, informed that besides attending the ASEAN-Japan summit, Jokowi will also attend the meeting of leaders of the Asia Zero Economy Community (AZEC).
