Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Finance, Suahasil Nazara, has asked the employees of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Bea Cukai) to protect Indonesia from the circulation of illegal goods.

"What is done by the Customs and Excise staff throughout the country shows in the economic conditions and our state budget," he said at the 2023 Bea Cukai Christmas celebration here on Monday.

He also asked Customs and Excise officials to supervise and manage the flow of goods in and out of Indonesia.

He invited them to be inspired by the peaceful Christmas atmosphere in providing services to the people.

According to him, Christmas moments inspire being at peace with God, with oneself, and with others.

"If we are at peace with the three, we can work better by providing better services. I hope this can be a reflection and gratefulness for being the salvaged believers," he said.

In addition, he highlighted the dedication of all Customs and Excise staff and their families' trust in letting them serve Indonesia.

"This is our service, with peace that is given by God, we can be better servants with integrity," he said.

Earlier, the Customs and Excise office and Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta) Airport Police in Tangerang, Banten, succeeded in uncovering an international and domestic narcotics smuggling network.

Head of Soetta Customs and Excise Office, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, said in Tangerang on Monday that the joint operation exposed the smuggling network.

He informed that his side arrested three suspects — two Indonesian citizens and one Indian national — in connection with the case.
