"With a clear vision, a focused plan, and a commitment to improving the National Blue Agenda Action Partnership (NBAAP), we are ready to strengthen synergy and coordination to generate significant impacts on the health and welfare of the marine environment," the ministry's Deputy for Maritime Resources Coordination Firman Hidayat said in a statement received here on Monday.
According to him, the marine environment is valuable for Indonesia and the communities that depend on it.
Representatives from eight United Nations agencies, eight Indonesian ministries, and 12 international development partners, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), attended the NBAAP meeting.
NBAAP was launched a year ago during the G20 Summit in Bali.
In its first year, NBAAP achieved several significant results, such as designing and launching sustainable ocean projects in support of Indonesia's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and improving coordination and programs to support ocean development.
Some programs focus on increasing the access of small-scale fisheries businesses to export markets through the implementation of good practices, improving the working conditions of fishermen along with labor inspection, and innovative funding to tackle plastic waste.
The latest NBAAP meeting discussed this year's gap analysis through comprehensive mapping that still needs to be strengthened under the RPMJN and Indonesia's international commitments.
The meeting also launched the NBAAP Data and Information Center and discussed the establishment of a comprehensive framework for monitoring and evaluation of all projects to track their progress.
