Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, noted in a statement on Thursday that the D1 multiple entry visas can be used for tourism purposes, while the D2 multiple entry visas are designated for business.
He remarked that these two types of multiple entry visas were launched on December 20, with a stay of up to 60 days per arrival.
"This Multiple Entry Visa offers convenience for foreigners with high mobility. The application process can be done through the evisa.imigrasi.go.id page, and payment can be made using a credit card," Karim explained.
He elaborated that this new method helps foreigners to apply for Indonesian visas since they do not have to visit the Indonesian representative offices abroad.
This offered convenience has translated to a gradual increase in the number of foreigners visiting Indonesia. As of December 8, 2023, some 9,869,348 foreign tourists had entered Indonesia. This figure is 16 percent higher than the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry's 2023 target of foreign tourist visits of 8.5 million people.
"We are optimistic that this new visa policy would bring more foreigners to visit Indonesia along with the easing of visa application through our website that was launched in early 2023," he stated.
Karim remarked that his side implemented a visa policy in order to ensure the quality of foreigners visiting Indonesia. This effort was also made by other countries, such as Australia and Europe, which require foreign citizens to have a visa to enter their country.
"We are following the president's order to provide faster, easier, and better service along with digitalization in visa application," he stated.
