Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Judicial Commission has asked law enforcement institutions in Papua, including district courts, religious courts, appeals courts, and district prosecutor's offices, to provide Papuans legal services of even higher quality next year.

Head of institutional relations and informational services at the commission, Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata, said that the commission is working to ensure quality legal services for the Papuan people.

"Our objective here is to ensure swift and effective legal services for all justice seekers involved in legal cases," he stated in a press release received in Jayapura district, Papua province.

Dewata emphasized that the vast territory of Indonesia has prompted the commission to expedite the process of opening its representative offices in all regions so that every citizen of the country can enjoy proper legal services.

"We hope that the presence of the Judicial Commission in Papua will help people with their legal proceedings and facilitate them to access various legal services in any law enforcement institutions," he said.

He explained that the Judicial Commission is a state institution that has been tasked with conducting supervision and providing suggestions to the head of state regarding the appointment, dismissal, and promotion of judges stationed across the country.

"Article 24B paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia defines the Judicial Commission as an independent institution that wields the authority to propose the appointment of supreme judges and is tasked with monitoring the honor, dignity, and behavior of judges," he elaborated.

He said that the commission's presence in Papua is aimed at building people's trust in Indonesia's law enforcement institutions, adding that a high level of trust would help the institutions provide the finest services.

The representative unit of the Judicial Commission in the Papua region was instituted on November 4, 2022, with Methodius Kossay as its head.
