Purwokerto (ANTARA) - Indonesian Railways (PT KAI) President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that PT KAI is committed to constantly improving the level of its service and comfort for the public.

“Today, we have inaugurated the operation of the skybridge, customer service lounge, and ‘Serayu’ executive waiting room in the old station,” he stated after the inauguration of new facilities at Purwokerto Station, Banyumas, Central Java, on Wednesday.

Hartantyo remarked that PT KAI’s purpose in finalizing developments at Purwokerto Station is to improve its service quality to the public.

He also stated that the old facilities at Purwokerto Station are still good, but their space is no longer sufficient to accommodate 11-12 thousand daily passengers.

“In times like these (year-end holidays), we must anticipate the condition, which is why we constructed the skybridge and the customer service lounge. Here, passenger can conduct boarding with face recognition,” he stated.

Apart from a sufficient waiting room, the station’s new building is also equipped with facilities for people with disabilities, such as priority elevators and escalators.

PT KAI aims to offer a new experience for customers with the new facilities, Hartantyo stated.

“Thus, we hope that the collaboration we have built between PT KAI, regional governments, and stakeholders can offer a great impact for people in Purwokerto, as trains are still the main choice of transportation for people in Purwokerto,” Hartantyo stated.

Meanwhile, Acting Regional Secretary of Banyumas Junaidi expressed gratitude for the new facilities that PT KAI has built in its attempt to improve its service.

“We hope the public will be delighted to choose trains, train services can improve, and tourism in Banyumas can increase,” Junaidi remarked.

He stated that Banyumas District has vast potential for tourism, such as its local wisdom and culture, and the Baturraden tourist attraction.

Junaidi expressed hope that tourist visits to Banyumas would increase after PT KAI completes the construction of new facilities at Purwokerto Station.

PT KAI Commissioner Diah Natalisa lauded the PT KAI president director and his staff for upholding their commitment to providing the best services to the public.

“Various infrastructure improvements have been conducted,” Natalisa stated.

“Today, we have the skybridge, customer service counter, executive waiting room, and the most admirable value being inclusivity or paying attention to all customers’ needs, including vulnerable groups,” she stated.

She expressed hope that apart from being a mode of transportation, trains could offer a delightful experience, so that customers could enjoy PT KAI’s services.

Construction of the skybridge and the customer service counter began on December 9, 2022, and was completed on December 10, 2023. This skybridge is a connecting access between ticket counters, the new Customer Service Counters, and the Zone 2 waiting room, which is a glass building.

The skybridge is 36 meters in length and six meters in width and can accommodate around 100 people. The structure is equipped with an elevator as an access point for people with disabilities and escalators that connect Zone 2’s first and second floors.

The Customer Service Counter is a new building for service counters and customer service that utilizes a modern minimalistic concept with an area of around 60 square meters. This building is equipped with air conditioners, sofas, a charging corner, and a television for train information.
