"We will carry out security at several points, not to put barrier, but diverting the flow," traffic director of the Greater Jakarta Police, Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, informed here on Friday.
He said that his side will guard Kalimalang and divert travelers from Bekasi, West Java, and PGC in East Jakarta for those coming from Bogor.
Security posts will be set up in the Pasar Rebo and Lenteng Agung areas, and personnel will be kept ready there, he added.
Vehicle riders suspected of taking out convoys in Jakarta on New Year's Eve will be asked to turn around.
"We will ask (motorists) who will do disturbing activities such as convoys to turn around," he said.
He informed that his side will start monitoring the entrance points to Jakarta from 4 p.m. local time on Sunday afternoon (December 31, 2023).
He said that the monitoring will be carried out so that people can celebrate the New Year in their respective regions.
"This means that people should do events in their respective cities. Tangerang people in Tangerang, Bekasi people in Bekasi, and Depok people in Depok. The hope is that they will not gather in Jakarta," he explained.
The Greater Jakarta Police has asked residents living in Jakarta and surrounding areas not to take part in convoys on New Year's Eve because it could disturb public order.
"Let's not do convoys or parades, as they interfere (disturb) other people," the Greater Jakarta Police's head of public relations, Senior Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said.
