Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko (TWC) welcomed the first visitors to the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park and Ratu Boko Palace in 2024 by inviting them to plant trees in the area.

"Tree planting is our tradition to invite tourists to preserve the environment in heritage destinations," PT TWC President Director Febrina Intan remarked here on Tuesday.

According to Intan, the first visitor welcoming activity was also held at Borobudur Temple, the Prambanan Ramayana Theatre and Stage, and the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) on January 1, 2024.

"The planting of bodhi trees and kalpataru trees is a symbol of hope for realizing a future full of enlightenment, virtue, prosperity, and peace for Indonesia and the whole world," she remarked.

In addition to planting trees, the welcoming event was marked by several traditional art performances, such as srandul, gejog lesung, edan-edanan dance, and gambyong dance.

Intan noted that the art performances were in line with the value of "Blessing in Harmony" that combines social, natural, and spiritual values.

"This agenda is expected to provide an unforgettable experience and create joy and happiness for tourists," she stated.

The routine event every new year aims to increase the awareness of tourists to participate in preserving the environment, especially in cultural heritage areas that are rich with historical relics.

"Tourist participation in the preservation of heritage destinations is part of boosting quality and sustainable tourism in Indonesia," she remarked.

Intan stated that the first tourists who arrived at Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Palace were gifted an ecoprint cloth with kalpataru tree motifs.

Kalpataru symbolizes a tree of virtue and is shown on the reliefs of the Prambanan Temple.
