Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari said that the third debate for the 2024 presidential election is expected to help people decide their preferred candidates in the election scheduled for February 14.

"We will all witness a debate with themes expected to be taken for consideration (when voting for candidates)," Asyari noted in his opening remark for the debate in Jakarta on Sunday evening.

The third debate will carry the themes of defense, security, international relations, globalization, and foreign policy.

"The presidential candidates will participate in this debate," he added.

Two moderators--Anisha Dasuki and Aryo Ardi--will guide the debate, featuring six segments. Meanwhile, the questions prepared for the debate were arranged by a panelist team of 11.

The moderators will ask various questions to each presidential candidate. The candidates are allowed to respond and refute each other's statements.

Sunday's debate followed the first and second debates that took place in Jakarta on December 12 and December 22 . The next debates are scheduled for January 21 and February 4.

The KPU has determined three presidential and vice presidential pairs for the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (pair number 1), Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka (pair number 2), and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD (pair number 2).

The campaign period has been underway since November 28, 2023 and will last until February 10, 2024.
