Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that wasteful spending on digital infrastructure amid Indonesia's digital transformation efforts should be prevented while still continuing to improve digital security.

"What is most important is wasteful spending on digital infrastructure must be prevented, and digital security must continue to be improved," Jokowi remarked while delivering directions at a plenary cabinet meeting held at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Jokowi noted that the Onward Indonesia Cabinet still has nine months to complete its tasks. He underscored the need to use the remaining time to improve bureaucratic reform related to digitalization.

"(It is) because digital transformation is a necessity, and we really have to integrate government digital services," he explained.

According to the president, thousands of government platforms should be simplified. He requested that no other new digital platforms be created that are oriented only towards certain projects, as it will only make it difficult to simplify and improve digitalization, especially government digital services.

On that occasion, he urged Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas to accelerate the implementation of electronic-based government systems, integrate all portals into one national portal, and bolster digital security.

"I ask the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) minister to support the acceleration of transformation through Perum Peruri (state-owned banknotes printer and mint), which is our national GovTech," he remarked.

He also called on Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, to accelerate the development and implementation of digital ID that had been targeted for completion by June.

Furthermore, the president called on Minister Setiadi to conduct transformation of the government cloud policy to improve digital policies that are under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
