Apart from literacy, he added that the participation of the community in the planning of development also plays a vital role in village development.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar underlined that improving the literacy of village communities will accelerate village development.
"One of the ways for us to enlighten (people) that villages have problems is through literacy," Iskandar said in a statement here on Sunday.
He assessed that literacy plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources in villages which are essential in village development, from its planning to evaluation.
According to him, to make the literacy movement run thoroughly in 75,265 villages in Indonesia, his ministry issued a regulation on reading resources for village communities, namely Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister's Decree Number 3 of 2024 on Village Communities' Reading Gardens.
The minister noted that, with the presence of a regulation for literacy in villages, the utilization of village funds to improve the quality of human resources can run faster.
"Of course, improving human resources and the economy of village communities is the main target. The more self-sufficient a village is, infrastructure will no longer be a topic. The focus of self-sufficient villages is improving human resources and the economy," he remarked.
Apart from literacy, he added that the participation of the community in the planning of development also plays a vital role in village development.
With the participation of the community, he said, the implementation of development will not be based on the interests of certain elites but will focus on the potential and the existing problems in the village.
"Those two things can be known with stronger literacy. We want village funds to improve the participation of the community because their participation will oversee the transparency in development," he said.
