Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will provide direct cash assistance (BLT) from January to March to 18.8 million beneficiary families (KPMs) to help them cope with potential food price increases, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said on Monday.

"Direct cash assistance is for food risk mitigation for three months, and it will be evaluated," he said during a press conference after a high-level meeting of the Central Inflation Control Team (TPIP) in Jakarta.

He said that the budget has been approved by the Minister of Finance.

The BLT will replace the El-Nino BLT program in November and December 2023, targeting 18.8 million KPMs.

"This replaces the El Nino program last year, when each KPM received an assistance of Rp200,000 per month," he added.

The BLT beneficiaries will also receive the same amount of cash assistance per month.

Rice food assistance is a program implemented by the government under which each KPM is provided 10 kilograms of rice every month for three months. The rice for the program is sourced from the government rice reserves (CBP).

"The government has also decided to continue the rice food assistance program until June 2024 with 10 kilograms of rice per month (for each KPM)," Hartarto added.
