Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, on Tuesday invited Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries to attend the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May 2024.

“Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries play a significant role in their regional process and have made significant contributions to the 10th World Water Forum taking place in Bali in May 2024,” Hadimuljono said here on Tuesday.

The minister has been invited to deliver his remarks at the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, which is being held in Tunis, Tunisia, from February 5–7, 2024.

Hadimuljono commended the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum as a stepping stone to the 10th World Water Forum, which is expected to serve as a platform to discuss and affirm nations’ commitment to improve water sustainability.

“Starting from the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, we expect the 10th World Water Forum next May to be an appropriate forum to share knowledge and experience in managing water resources and to reaffirm the commitment to the global water community,” he said.

He informed that his ministry and the World Water Council are currently finalizing the Ministerial Declaration of the World Water Forum, which passed the first preparatory meeting in Paris last January.

The ministerial declaration outlines the six sub-themes of the forum: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro-diplomacy; sustainable water finance, and knowledge and innovation.

The declaration document will combine the collective commitment from various countries, including Mediterranean countries, the minister informed.

“This declaration aims to set a commitment on concrete actions and innovative solutions related to the Tunis Declaration that we have agreed (upon at the Mediterranean Water Forum) today,” Hadimuljono said.

“We are open to and expect inputs from the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, especially regarding important aspects from the Tunis Declaration. We will consider all inputs to perfect the first draft of the ministerial declaration, and it will be deliberated in the second preparatory meeting on March 28–29 in Paris,” he added.

He also expressed gratitude to the Tunisian government for lending support to Indonesia as the host of the 10th World Water Forum.
