Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program is one of the government's strategies to boost the quality of education in Indonesia, according to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

"The ministry is committed to accelerating the improvement of quality and relevance of education, including higher education. The keywords are accelerating quality improvement," the ministry's Director General of Vocational Education, Kiki Yuliati, noted in a statement from her ministry here, Thursday.

Yuliati elaborated that one of the measures prepared by her ministry to expedite the improvement of higher education quality and relevance is the Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program.

Programs in the MBKM open ways for the development of quality human resources that are planned and focused on students' quality.

In addition to paying attention to the quality of students, programs under the MBKM also focus on the quality of learning and educational facilities as well as boosting the competence and qualifications of lecturers.

One of the programs is the IISMA, which is a scholarship scheme for undergraduate degree students in the fourth to seventh semester to join a one-semester mobility program at leading universities and reputable industries overseas, with funding support from the Indonesian government.

Yuliati noted that IISMA awardees will have the opportunity to seek experience, broaden their knowledge, and hone their competence in various prominent universities and industries at the international level.

From 2021 to 2023, a total of 4,546 university students received the IISMA scholarship, while in 2024, some three thousand university students will become scholarship recipients.

She expressed hope that the increase in quota for the IISMA program would support the creation of human resources that have broad knowledge and international perspective as well as are able to compete at the global level.

This is in line with IISMA's goal of providing higher education opportunities for its awardees, so that they can open the door to career advancement that will eventually contribute positively to Indonesia's development.
