Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Mansury said that the Indonesian press must play a part in informing and educating the people to help realize the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision on the nation's centenary.

The press must also help shape public opinion with correct and accurate information amid global multipolarity, he added.

"The press and mass media should provide information, education, and trends, as well as ways to make Indonesia enhance its role amid the global multipolarity competition," Mansury continued at the National Press Day commemoration here on Monday.

Speaking during the "National Convention of Mass Media" agenda, he said that the government's efforts to bolster foreign investment in Indonesia must be done in concert with efforts to educate the people.

The public must be informed about the downstreaming process and the development of industries with added value, which can benefit the country, Mansury expounded.

"The press can support Indonesia's diplomatic endeavor by providing understanding among our people concerning Indonesia's foreign policy strategy," he said.

The press must also develop and promote a positive image of Indonesia to allow the country to play a bigger role at the regional and global levels, he stressed.

Mansury pointed out that one of Indonesia's current agendas on the global level is to encourage developing countries to downstream their natural resources.

"It is to ensure that we are capable of developing the processing of our national resources and to ensure the global community will accept such a strategy," the deputy minister explained.

He said that rivalry among developed countries in a multipolar world might lead to the emergence of more powerful countries as developed countries further expand their influence.

"Indonesia also calls (the global community) to hear the voice of the developing countries, or as we know as the Global South," Mansury remarked.
