Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno met with travel agencies in Australia to explore cooperation to attract more Australian tourists to Indonesia.

"We are working with the tourism industry in Australia, one of which is the Flight Center, for increasing foreign tourists visits from Australia," Uno remarked, as quoted from the ministry’s statement here on Tuesday.

The minister visited Australia to meet with representatives of the Flight Center to discuss various areas for potential cooperation, including for tourism promotions.

Australia is one of the countries with the highest number of foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia, and an increase in Australian tourist visits is expected to strengthen and support the realization of the target of 14.3 million foreign tourist visits in 2024.

Minister Uno stated that several Australian investors were keen to know about Indonesia's post-election economic and political situation.

"We convey to them that all situations are conducive, and there is more optimism for the sustainability of Indonesia's development in the future," he affirmed.

During the working visit, Uno also reviewed the Indonesia Spice Up the World program by visiting several Indonesian restaurants in Sydney.

He said that the ministry will be able to promote more creative economy products, so that they can be displayed in Australia and develop further within the framework of cooperation.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 11.68 million foreign tourists during the January-December 2023 period.

The top five countries where foreign tourists in Indonesia came from in 2023 are Malaysia, with 1.9 million visits; Australia, 1.43 million visits; Singapore, 1.41 million visits; China, 787,924 visits; and Timor-Leste, 728,586 visits.
