Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga said that the government is encouraging business actors to develop export-oriented and innovative designs for products, especially for the Good Design Indonesia (GDI) 2024 event.

"We encourage our products to succeed at the international level. Hopefully, this can be a motivation for all of us," he added at the GDI 2023 Award & GDI 2024 event launch here on Monday.

He said he hopes that the event can inspire export-oriented, innovative, and creative product designs that can help promote the products internationally.

The GDI event is expected to have a positive impact on Indonesia's trade in the global market, Sambuaga added.

Products with export-oriented design and quality are expected to have a higher selling value, he continued.

According to him, such products can contribute positively to the economy, society, and environment.

GDI is being held by the Trade Ministry to promote local products and help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) enter the export market, he explained.

"This can provide a kind of Key Performance Index (KPI), and the award recipients can get added value in the form of (award) acceptance, access, and commercial values," he said.

Meanwhile, the ministry's director general of national export development, Didi Sumedi, said that 502 products have been registered for GDI 2023.

The awards will cover 17 product categories, including craft, architecture, and business models.

Three categories of awards will be announced: GDI Good Design, GDI Best Design, and GDI of the Year.

Sumedi expressed the hope that the GDI event would be a way to promote the quality and assurance of MSME products.
