"The export value of fishery products in 2023 reached Rp31 billion, which focused on fishery product exports to several countries, such as the United States, Japan, and Singapore,” PT Perikanan Indonesia’s Director of Operations, Fajar Widisasono, noted in a statement here on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, total exports in 2022, weighing over 288 thousand kg, were valued at Rp26 billion.
In 2023, the company expanded its export market reach by adding Australia, China, and South Korea to the list of destination countries.
The company exported flagship products to these countries, such as octopus, tuna, and skipjack tuna.
"This (expansion) increased the total exports to 572,633.26 kg, with a value of Rp31.894 billion," he remarked.
According to Widisasono, this achievement is the result of good work and synergy of all teams in the company and the government’s support in improving the quality and promotion of Indonesian fishery products.
Widisasono affirmed that his side is striving to adopt various latest technologies as an effort to increase the efficiency and quality of the products, so that they can compete in the international market.
"The increase (in exports) is inseparable from our strategy in innovating and improving product quality. We are also expanding our marketing network to various potential new countries," he remarked.
Furthermore, product diversification was the key to the company's success in the exports in 2023.
In addition to flagship products, such as tuna, skipjack, and octopus, Perikanan Indonesia introduced new products, such as GG tuna, cuttlefish fillets, and squid, into its export portfolio.
"This diversification opens up new market opportunities and strengthens Perikanan Indonesia’s position as an exporter of high-quality fishery products," he remarked.
