Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has summoned representatives from social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to Indonesia to discuss the platform's handling of online gambling advertisements.

Director general of informatics application at the ministry, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said that X has been summoned because an online gambling advertisement involving a public figure is still appearing on the platform, despite an earlier warning.

"They are still finding a time to come (to Indonesia); it has been responded to through our e-mail. However, because their (Asia-Pacific) headquarters are in Singapore, they are still finding a time. They said they will come to Indonesia," he informed here on Wednesday.

Pangerapan said that his ministry will ask X to prepare a technology or special algorithms to detect online gambling advertisements.

That way, if such advertisements appear on the platform later, the ministry would not need to notify it manually to take them down.

"To this end, we ask them to develop it so that when similar content is found, we would not need to ask them (to remove the content) again, but the content will be automatically handled," he explained.

Earlier, an online gambling advertisement involving a public figure was found on X.

The advertisement was described as disturbing by netizens, with some saying that it was appearing sporadically in their search recommendations though they did not follow the concerned account.

A similar case was reported at the beginning of 2024, when the online gambling site promoted in the advertisement was called Cacabola. In response, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics had issued a strong warning to X.
