Director General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management of KLHK Hanif Faisol stated in Jakarta on Friday that his office continues to encourage steps to accelerate approaches in determining the carrying capacity and the environmental capacity.
"The carrying capacity and the environmental capacity are really needed as a direction for how natural resources are used," he said.
The KLHK projects that the consumption of natural resources will continue to increase until it eventually reaches a state of excess.
Hence, to prevent that condition from occurring, an instrument called D3TLH (the carrying capacity and the environmental capacity) is needed to determine the environmental threshold.
The D3TLH functioned as a measuring tool to maintain a balance between the availability and needs of natural resources.
Faisol drew attention to the five main focuses of the D3TLH that can be renewed for environmental protection and management, i.e., water, land, biodiversity, air, and sea.
However, the model for air and sea has yet to be completed and is still being prepared and targeted to be delivered next year.
"We have been talking about mining, talking about forest environments, talking about industry, but we have never thought about having a concrete handle on that, so today we're presenting it," he explained.
"The D3TLH is part of the environmental management and protection plan mandated by Law No. 32 of 2009," Faisol remarked.
