Auckland, New Zealand (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has asked all Indonesians, in welcoming the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, to stay true to the democratic values consistently upheld by the nation in every election.

After a meeting with New Zealander halal product business actors, Amin said that democratic regional elections can be realized only if democratic values are genuinely upheld by all elements of society, including election organizers and security apparatus.

"That way, I believe we will be successful in ensuring that the regional elections run well and democratically under the principles of honesty and fairness. Everything can go smoothly according to applicable regulations," he explained in Auckland, New Zealand, on Friday.

He expressed the belief that by working together to oversee the implementation of the relevant regulations and upholding democratic values, the Indonesian people can ensure the elections, which will take place simultaneously in November this year, run as per expectations.

"Everything will run well and safely if we do so. It should be noted that this nation has already faced elections at various levels multiple times," he pointed out.

He then appealed to people to keep taking notes from past elections and play an active role in maintaining a conducive atmosphere for the upcoming elections.

"We need to continue to maintain a conducive situation, like we have always done before. We cannot afford to let the elections be tainted with bad things," he said.

Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, Fientje Maritje Suebu, and Special Staff at the Vice Presidential Secretariat, Masduki Baidlowi, accompanied Amin during the press conference after the meeting.
