Officers stationed at integrated health posts (posyandus) should possess the capability of providing proper services to people of all ages, starting from unborn infants to the elderly, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized.
According to Sadikin, posyandu officers have been overly focused on serving pregnant women and toddlers, when in fact, the number of adults has been steadily increasing in Indonesia.
"We urge posyandu officers to not only serve pregnant women and toddlers but also provide service to people in every cycle of life, namely pregnancy, infancy, adolescence, adulthood, and senior years," he noted in a statement received from his office here on Tuesday.
He made the statement during a luncheon involving posyandu officers at the Building of the Health Ministry in Jakarta on Monday (March 4).
The minister underscored the need for posyandu officers to enroll in coaching and training courses that will teach them how to provide proper and comprehensive medical services.

In that context, he remarked that the Health Ministry will hold digital classes aimed at augmenting the capacity of around 1.5 million posyandu officers.
He affirmed that the ministry is planning to bring digital transformation to posyandus, noting that digitization is in line with the sixth pillar of Indonesia's health transformation, namely the transformation of medical technology.
"Posyandus will be able to keep data on the diseases of their patients, enabling officers to provide the required treatments accordingly," he remarked.
The Ministry of Health held the luncheon to award posyandu officers who emerged as winners in a quiz competition that revolved around additional food for infants and the weighing of babies and toddlers.
During the luncheon, Minister Sadikin and his deputy, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, directly heeded aspirations conveyed by posyandu officers stationed in different regions.
