Jakarta (ANTARA) - Spokesperson for the Religious Affairs Ministry, Anna Hasbie, has emphasized that the circular regarding guidelines on the use of loudspeakers would not limit people's worship activities during Ramadan.

"This circular does not prohibit the use of loudspeakers. Please continue reading the Quran with the loudspeakers. However, for mutual interest, please only use internal speakers," Hasbie said in a statement released on Monday.

The Religious Affairs Ministry on February 18, 2022, issued Circular Letter Number: SE. 05 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Use of Loudspeakers in Mosques and Prayer Rooms, she noted.

The circular aims to realize peace, order, and shared comfort in religious broadcasting among people with diverse religions, beliefs, and backgrounds.

The circular regulates the use of indoor and outdoor loudspeakers, including the use of loudspeakers during Ramadan, tarawih prayers, Ramadan lectures/studies, and Quran reading, requiring speakers to be pointed inside mosques.

Hasbie clarified that the circular is not a new guideline, considering that it has been around since 1978 in the form of Instructions from the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Number Kep/D/101/1978.

"It also regulated that during Ramadan, on day and night, the Quran reading activity must use indoor speakers," Hasbie said.

She added that the circular has not been issued to limit religious activities during Ramadan.

However, the use of loudspeakers has been regulated to build a serene atmosphere during the holy month, she said.

"If the sound is too loud, especially if the mosques are close to each other, the sounds will collide with each other and become less serene. If it is regulated, it will be more serene, easier to listen to, and the lecture or study would be easier to understand," she explained.
