"The ministry office in provinces will distribute the copies free of charge to residents who need it,"Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Religious Affairs Ministry's Quran Printing Unit distributed 34 thousand Islamic holy book copies to various provinces nationwide to bolster Indonesian Muslims' Quran literacy in the holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry's Quran Printing Unit Head, Jamaluddin, as per the written statement here on Tuesday (March 12), stated that the Quran should be easily available for residents to increase literacy.
"The availability of Quran copies has a causality to the Quran literacy level. Regions with a sufficient number of Quran copies are inclined to have a lower Quran illiteracy level," he stated.
Jamaluddin explained that the 34 thousand Islamic holy book copies comprise 17 thousand Quran copies and 17 thousand Yasin copies.
The Yasin copy is a compilation of Quranic surah (chapter) Yasin and other Quranic verses commonly read collectively by Muslims in Indonesia at a funeral procession.
The holy book copies were delivered to the ministry's local offices on March 11, 2024, and each region received 500 Quran and 500 Yasin copies, he noted.
"The ministry office in provinces will distribute the copies free of charge to residents who need it," the unit head stated.
Meanwhile, Jamaluddin reminded residents who receive the Quran and Yasin copies from the ministry's provincial office to be attentive to storing the holy book.
According to the Quran Printing Unit's technical guidance, the Quran should be stored in a clean place, at least 30 centimeters from the ground.
"The transfer of the Quran from the storage to other locations should also adhere to the Sharia rule, which prohibits it from being slammed or damaged," he stated.
He also expressed hope that once it is received by the provincial offices, the Quran and Yasin copies will be distributed to Muslims in need of them.
