Expert Staff for Business Climate and Investment of the ministry, Doddy Rahadi, stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the EIP concept does not only pay attention to the economic aspects but also the environmental, social, and resource efficiency facets.
Hence, with that focus, it is hoped that Indonesia can achieve the target of net zero emissions or zero carbon emissions by 2050.
"Even in the midst of a slowing global economic situation, Indonesia has succeeded in maintaining stable economic growth, especially in the manufacturing sector,” Rahadi remarked.
“This positive achievement is the result of hard work from all parties involved in moving the industry in Indonesia,” he affirmed.
"Apart from that, developing environmentally friendly industrial areas is an important focus in increasing investment and Indonesia's competitiveness," he remarked.
Rahadi said that his side had signed the first phase of the Final Event of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Program -- Indonesia (GEIPP-Indonesia) and launched the second phase that became an important momentum in the efforts to maintain Indonesia's economic and environmental sustainability.
The signing is a concrete manifestation of the results of the cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as well as the Swiss Embassy.
He noted that Indonesia is one of the pilot countries in UNIDO's GEIPP as well as the country with the best performance in regional management and social aspects.
"Developing environmentally friendly industrial areas is an important focus in increasing investment and Indonesia's competitiveness," he stated.
Moreover, he said that the ministry had issued Ministerial Decree Number 3174 of 2022 regarding the Inter-Ministerial Forum to support the implementation of EIP in Indonesia.
The forum aims to develop an EIP concept for industrial areas as well as provide guidelines for stakeholders in mapping industrial areas that are environmentally friendly.
"The minister encourages this decision to be upgraded into a Ministerial Regulation to serve as technical guidance in implementing EIP," he remarked.
He affirmed that through cross-sectoral cooperation and support from the government and international institutions, Indonesia will be committed to accelerating the development of EIP.
"The GEIPP program will provide a significant positive contribution to sustainable industrial development in Indonesia in accordance with Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitment in the Paris Agreement," he stated.
